Immersive illness

"A challenge that concerns me the most is lurking on the horizon, one we don't yet understand the full scope of. As Immersive Education and other forms of personal virtual reality become more realistic and compelling we're going to see "immersive illness" become more common and more difficult to deal with. Although this is an issue today we're somewhat protected by the limitations of today's personal computers and game consoles (they just aren't powerful enough...yet), but in another decade or more it'll be a different story altogether. Nobody knows exactly what impact insanely realistic, media-rich virtual reality will have on society. We're already dealing with early forms of immersive illness, such as addiction, alienation, mental schisms, and more, but today it's not a problem that affects a large percentage of users. We don't see massive problems today for a number of reasons, including rather low-quality virtual environments and limitations on how much time we spend in these environments. But what happens when the visual and audio quality becomes indistinguishable from reality, the technology becomes truly mainstream, and a substantial portion of education takes place in such environments and not in a real classroom? With massive power comes massive problems. Last week I was asked how big this problem will be, and I responded that nobody knows for sure but I'd estimate that the at-risk population can be calculate by adding the percentage of people with addiction problems to the percentage of society that suffer some form of mental illness. That's a big chunk of society. Is it all gloom and doom? Certainly not, but it's a grand challenge we're not even remotely prepared for today. As with other disruptions society will eventually adapt, but I think we're in for a very rough ride." - http://terranova.blogs.com/terra_nova/2007/05/teaching_in_vr_.html

Virtual reality is a great thing. It has several positive components and impacts. For example someone who can't be present during the birth of their child can pretty much be present with a new invention of the goggles. Video games, virtual worlds, etc all being new never seen incredible things. Just how social media started small and became a phenomenon or video games back the, anything new growing and evolving to something popular.

With anything that has one side to it, there's always another side. Anything that has a positive has a negative. An easy example being social media. Several positives and great use to it but several negatives. With the virtual world and immersive idea that can also be the same situation. when you first think about it you wouldn't think that a virtual system and virtual world can affect your health but with any  addiction or something that brings great pleasure or happiness it can do such a thing. Many things arise that may never have seemed possible. Something like the virtual world is sort of a seed thats growing into maybe a tree with several leaves and branches and you just never know what exactly those aspects are (all the different branches and leaves being the aspects of the virtual world).

The virtual world world can maybe become a virtual drug. not an actual drug but something that serves as fix, a high, great pleasure that takes you away and it can easily become something addictive and negative pending the person. Thats just one possibility, with something so different and easily growable and the possibilities unseen, you never know. We will see in years to come how it all unfolds.

CLASS 5 ASSIGNMENT 1: REVISING MY IMMERSIVE TECH REPORTS IN GOOGLE DOCS

CLASS 5: OPERATING SYSTEM REPORTS SHARED WITH ME

Here you can see the google docs shared with me, specifically other operating systems reports.

Microsoft HoloLens, HTC Valve Vive, and Samsung Virtual Reality (VR)

HOLOLENS - HoloLens provides a new way to look at your work and visualize things in a different way. It allows real physical objects and things to be blended with high-defintion holograms and sort of makes it appear as if its all one thing. The holograms are there to serve and make things you do easier as well as make life better.

HTC VALVE VIVE - HTC has made a headset that allows you to see things virtually. Allows you to see unseen things and create a different world. It allows you to see things differently as well as things you havent seen and the experience makes it so that your body is apart of the virtual world you see.

SAMSUNG VIRTUAL REALITY - A new samsung virtual reality headset that lighter, better, more efficeint with added ventilation providing it to last longer. Its the new future of mobile virtual reality and samsung is looking to capitalize on this and its also compatible with other phones not just the galaxy 4.

VIDEO GAMES MORE THAN A GAME

Summary: IBM Reports

The online world has many hours invested in it as the real world. This gaming world many of us have experienced has taught people to get out of their comfort zone. In these reports I found out that on average gamers put in 22 hours a week into playing these games. That is the same amount of a part-time job in the real world.
In the virtual realm decision-making can either make or break you. What I'm saying is that you can either be a leader or you can be a follower. You tendencies and habits that you acquire from these gaming experiences carry over into the real world which is extraordinary. It creates leaders in people who would've never thought they'd to leave their comfort zone. The rewards you may receive in these games are a reflection of the decision-making you made in order to get that certain point.

These "incentive systems" that the creators of the games have made are phenomenal. They tie in virtual world experiences to real world ones. Someone's judgment and responses in a game will separate them from someone else's, in which you either have what it takes at this moment or you don't. If not there will always be another task you may excel in that someone else may not. Leadership in these types of environments don't last forever. Sometimes the rewards in the game can even extend to the real world.

The teachings of online gaming form experiences that many people cannot say that they have had. Some of these experiences include strengthening traits and habits that people have, or have acquired while playing online. These strengths help people embrace their confident side. Also gives them more experience (job wise) to feel more at home with being a leader and not a follower. (Such as a management position.) lessons learned by playing online can help turn weaknesses into strengths as well and vice versa.

Online gaming has proved to be more than just having fun. It is a way that many companies today use in order to build character skills. Such as strengthening leadership skills and eliminating any weaknesses that don't comply.

Sharing on facebook

facebook likes vs friends vs shares

Facebook
Likes: in Facebook Liking something is showing whoever posted it that you either agree, find it funny, etc. depending on the actual post itself. These lights are only visible to whoever else can see the post as well as the person who posted it. When you like a page however it is different then liking the post. The difference is that by liking a page you are now connecting to it and can see the stories and whatever else is on your newsfeed from that page. It is as if you were adding a friend.

Friends: by adding friends you're connecting with them in which you see the activity while they are on Facebook. There activity is based on what it is they are doing while on the site. Also when you add certain friends suggestions for adding new friends may appear. These suggestions are based on mutual friends that you and someone you may know both have. Friends are something you must add or if they request you, you can either confirm or deny that request. Once that is established you start sharing information between you and your friends on your newsfeed.

Shares(Sharing): Sharing is a term on Facebook people use when they see a post they find entertaining or interesting to them. Once this are in post is established as entertaining they have the option of sharing it to their friends. And once you share something from one of your friends or a page you follow it appears on your newsfeed. Sharing can vary from links, photos, etc. Sharing is it's own option in which it differs from likes and/or friends. However they are similar but the difference is when you share something you are not connecting to that page but merely showing that you and that post share a common interest.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality
Immersion 2014
Overview : Virtual reality engages the viewer in the actual storyline whether it's a game or a movie. It provides the viewer with more areas to allow our every day senses to be stimulated. It does this by allowing the viewers to believe they are apart of the journey themselves instead of just watching it take place. This reality is not confused with the real world, but with the new technology surfacing anything will be possible.
1. Oculus rift
The oculus rift is an extremely good example of virtual reality. It allows the viewer to put ,what look like binoculars, on to make the virtual reality that much more of a reality. They create this as more of modern as well as more fun way to engage in your everyday video games. (The ones compatible with this device of course.) This device is what is starting to blur the lines between actual reality and virtual reality. Since the viewer can clearly feel the eye piece itself it reminds the viewer constantly that they are in a virtual world.
2. Samsung gear VR
This device goes along with your cell phone. The Samsung Gear VR provides a virtual image of the objects surrounding you, as well as giving additional information about said objects. It also gives you a 360 degree video feed of the environment for a more interesting gaming experience. The gear also includes an oculus driven software that also enhances video experiences without any gaming involved.
3. Google cardboard
This cardboard assists you immensely. The Google cardboard allows you to take yourself on a virtual tour of your preference. It puts the virtual reality into your actual smartphone. It also allows you to be able to visit any part of the world with a tour guide. This cardboard also enhances the viewer experience by making it seem as though the screen is bigger than what it really is.

4. Simulations
These are other types of virtual realities. Simulations are computer generated imitations of real world activities. These simulations allow people to show things they cannot replay, show/see again. They use simulations at many institutions mostly for a better way of learning. Simulations allow the students to take in extra information and become more familiar with what they are learning.
5. Domes
A type of dome that is used greatly is the planetarium. This is a dome in which the main subject is the universe. This dome is extremely educational and fun way to project many things that have to do with astronomy. Such as the planets, celestial objects, etc. this projection allows you to see the night sky as if it were actually right there in front of you.

Augmented Reality

EiED 2014 Vienna
Overview: Augmented reality is displayed in many ways in today's modern world. The initiative was established in 2005. This version of reality takes the virtual world and makes it so it appears to be closer to our real world than the virtual version. Augmented reality adds more natural senses to help "blur" the lines between the real and virtual world.
1. Power point
Power points are a virtual version of information people use to display to others. Power points are extremely helpful when there is a lot of information you need to show to others without having to remember it all. It has immersive qualities in which the way people go about their presentations are easier to understand and be explained. Power points enhance the viewers' learning capability by explaining as well as showing them what they are learning.
2. Mine craft
A lot of institutions use Minecraft as a way of bringing together learning and games. This enhances learning capabilities because of the fact that people are enjoying themselves while gathering vital information. These learning games have found a way to make the player aware of the actual mission of the game and even more unaware of the fact that they are also learning simultaneously. This is also another form of where "science meets business."
3. Hands on demos
The hands-on demos are also a good learning tool. They let the one who is learning the information get a good feel of exactly what they are learning. They do this by providing the person learning this information with the same object they are teaching about. Therefore as they show you how to use a certain object you are also touching and using your own version of that object.

4. Speed sharing sessions
Speed sharing sessions are another tool that help the speaker get through their entire presentation without any interruptions. This eliminates questions that may throw off the speaker. This method also takes away uncertainties the speaker may be feeling themselves about their presentation. The 5 minute time limit also helps immensely by teaching the speaker to make sure their presentation contains enough in the 8 slides they contain to make their presentation last as well.
5. Workshops
Workshops are similar to all of these types of AR above. They allow multiple methods to be used to help engage whoever it is attempting at learning this information. They use hands on techniques, power point presentations, and many more. These various activities at workshops create an education friendly place where information such as this is not discouraging to learn about.

Growing my Facebook Follow

Just like twitter there are several ways to grow your followers, fans etc on facebook. One simple way is to let the mutual friend branch run its course and find people through that or allow people to find you. "People you May Know" is an easy feature of facebook to find mutual friends.
Another way would be to connect with other page members and be hands on. Asking for a shoutout or whatever the case is a simple way to grow your followers if you may. Sharing original content is also useful especially if its popular or interesting content. Tagging your friends from your original profile can also be a big hitter since thats where you may have a more established base of friends and following.  Link your page to your profile goes along with that too. If you have an email signature you can include that in the link too. As you can see there are several subtle ways to grow your following on social media. Commenting on others page with graceful intriguing thought can also aid in growing your followers. Contests, advertising, or promoting through your website can also be beneficial as well when trying to grow your follower count.

Growing my Twitter Followers

There are several ways in order to grow your twitter followers. Some more complex and hands on then others. You can easily gain followers through mutual friends seeing who mutual friends follow. You can also easily be seen by a feature on twitter that pops up when you follow someone or are doing any activity on twitter that says "People you May Know". Or there sit the simple way of asking people to shout you out and tell their followers to follow you. Or asking for people to retweet your own tweet.

Now here is a way that may be more complicated and easier said than done in order to gain followers: Creating Valuable content. Creating valuable content or any attention grabbing interesting tweet can allow your tweet to travel  and be seen by being retweeted or favorited. Repetition and continuously sharing information helps too, even about the same content or the same exact tweet.
Commenting on relevant information, news, or content can also help you grow your followers by engaging in conversation or maybe people feeling the same way and retweeting. Pretty much aiming at a popular topic or subject is a good target to aim at when tweeting rather than something irrelevant or old. Piggy backing of of this, you can also retweet valuable or interesting up to date content. Also engaging in promos or events or any entertainment can be useful to grow your followers too (asking listening responding). Promoting responsibly is good pointer also, along with countdowns to anything that you may find catching.

simply changing my profile picture and cover photo

testing youtube

i have subscribed to the immersive education youtube channel and here you can see proof of that as the box says "subscribed" and you can see my profile picture in the top right corner proving its me.

Liking Posts on Facebook

Here Ive liked the two most recent posts on the immersive education page and the proof is that the link where you usually click like, now says "unlike"

Testing twitter #2

Retweeting a tweet again but this time images are attached which changes the look of the tweet as a link (for/with image) and in actual view. and again it allows it to travel to multiple other parties.

Testing Twitter

SO here i just retweeted a tweet from immersive education twitter account as i waited for it to show up on my timeline and by retweeting it, i shared it with everyone so that more people can see pretty much hammering home the effect of social media, collaborating, and how information can travel quickly with the use of technology and social media.

On the road to mastering Facebook

Facebook has a live central news feed that allows you to see everything going with everyone you are friends with. you are able to add friends, accept friend requests, follow celebrities or slogans, business, etc if you may.
You can too post anything you please, your own thoughts or anything you wish to share : articles, videos, etc.
you can post pictures and facebook also has a feature where you can share other friends' posts or like their post showing gratification towards it for whatever reason.
all of these feautures simply allow you and other peoples world to be intertwined in a way which can aid in collaboration in a huge way.

here shows you it says "whats on your mind" and thats where you can post anything you please. you see a camera which which shows that you can upload and post a photo.
